Why adopt a red panda?

Despite sharing a name and munching on bamboo using their opposable thumbs, red pandas are not closely related to giant pandas. In fact, red pandas belong to their own unique taxonomic family while giant pandas are in the bear family.

Solitary and nocturnal, red pandas spend much of their time in trees. During daylight hours, they can be found resting or snoozing above the ground. Their semi-retractable claws and bushy tail help them cross trees and move easily from branch to branch.

Sadly, they are experiencing a loss of crucial nesting trees and diet staples like bamboo. Native to the Himalayas in Nepal, China, Bhutan, India and Myanmar, the red panda is listed as Endangered under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
