WHY ADOPT A RING-TAILED LEMUR?

There are 101 known species of lemur found in Madagascar. The ring-tailed lemur, named for the 13 alternating black and white bands that adorn their long, furry tail, is perhaps the most well known. Ring-tailed lemurs spend almost half of their time on the ground, walking on all four legs along the forest floor or sunbathing in open areas.

They are designated as Endangered under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to threats including hunting, domestication and habitat loss. With your symbolic adoption, you're helping WWF protect habitats across the globe, ensuring the long-term survival of species like the ring-tailed lemur. Our plush features the ring-tailed lemur's yellow eyes and, of course, black and white bands on its long, furry tail. This plush also has a white face with dark triangular eye patches, a black nose, grey back and limbs and a soft white belly.

Your purchase through our e-store is a crucial part of our fundraising efforts to support the conservation work that our scientists undertake to protect wildlife and their habitats. For example, to help protect narwhals, our Arctic Species Conservation Fund supports narwhal tagging and research in Nunavut. We also support the development of non-invasive research techniques, including the use of aerial drones and underwater microphones. This work helps us learn more about distribution, behaviour, and the impacts of underwater noise on narwhals, inspiring actions that safeguard the species.

Our Wildlife Adoptions are symbolic, which means that your purchase does not correspond to a specific animal in the wild. By selecting the wildlife adoption kit you like best, you are helping to protect all species at risk – not just one.
