WHY ADOPT A RIVER OTTER?

Found romping in rivers, lakes, swamps and estuaries, the North American river otter has a long, strong tail it uses as a rudder, and water-repellent fur that allows it to swim in cold waters. It can also hold its breath underwater for as long as eight minutes!

While river otter populations were drastically reduced in the early 1900s due to habitat loss, pollution and unregulated trapping, conservation efforts have helped populations recover. With your symbolic adoption, you're helping WWF-Canada continue efforts to safeguard the health of Canada's freshwater habitats to ensure the long-term survival of species like the river otter.

DESIGNED TRUE-TO-LIFE RIVER OTTER PLUSH

Our river otter plush includes the features that make the real-life species well adapted for semi-aquatic living: thick, protective fur; short legs and webbed feet to swim faster; a long tail to help propel them through the water; and a long, narrow body for streamlined movement in the water. The river otter's sensitive whiskers allow it to locate prey in murky waters, where its vision alone would not suffice.
