__FACEBOOK_DETAILS__African elephants are the world’s largest terrestrial animals. Once common throughout Africa, elephant numbers were severely depleted in the 19th century, largely due to the massive ivory trade. While some populations are now stable, poaching and habitat destruction continue to threaten the species. If conservation action is not forthcoming, elephants may become locally eradicated in some parts of Africa within 50 years.

    WHY ADOPT A HIPPO?

Weighing up to 3,600 kilograms, hippos are large semi-aquatic mammals with an enormous head and body, and short legs and tail.

Historically, the hippopotamus once thrived throughout all sub-Saharan African, but most population numbers have dropped due to threats such as illegal hunting and habitat loss. The common hippopotamus is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Your symbolic adoption helps WWF fight to secure the hippo's long-term survival by restoring habitat, reducing human-hippo conflict and preventing illegal poaching. You'll also be helping conserve other species at risk around the world, and providing a healthier natural world for us all.

    DESIGNED TRUE-TO-LIFE HIPPO PLUSH

Our plush may prefer land but it shares many of the features that make hippos so well adapted to aquatic life, including ears, eyes, and nostrils high on the head so the rest of the body may remain submerged. It's dense, barrel-like body is perfect for walking underwater without immediately floating to the top.
